Austin High Girls Volleyball team has started their 2024 season with a bang, already being ranked the second best high school team in Austin, and developed a 30-3 record, beating dominant schools like Johnson, Bowie, and Liberty Hill. The Maroons are killing it with players like Harper Luthy, who got ten kills against Johnson, and Riley Malloy, who added on another 13 kills for the win. Malloy, a junior commit to USC, also recently reached a milestone of 1000 career kills whilst playing for Austin High volleyball.
As the Maroons gear up for their next challenge against Westlake, the team is determined to regroup and harness the momentum they built during their impressive season so far. Unfortunately, after maintaining a winning streak for 6 games, the Maroons met their match with Westlake. In its first away game, Austin fell 3-1 to Westlake, updating our overall score to 31-4. “I would say that our loss to Westlake was a pivotal moment. It really motivated us to want to keep working hard.” said star player Riley Malloy. They will have their opportunity to play them again later in the season and hopefully pull out with a huge win for the school. Our next game against Westlake will also not be played in the comfort of home court, and Westlake has a reputation of being hard to beat, currently being on a winning streak.
Currently, Austin High stands as 3rd in the district with a score of 35-5 overall. Coaches and players alike are reflecting on their previous matchups, analyzing strategies that worked against formidable opponents and identifying areas for improvement. The energy in the gym is hyped, as the team focuses on sharpening their skills and building chemistry on the court. With standout players like Harper Luthy and Riley Malloy, the Maroons are eager to prove that they can bounce back from the setback against Westlake and secure a crucial victory against them again. Let’s hope for an Austin High win!
