Austin High secured their first win against Westwood in five years. The last time these two teams met, Westwood dominated with a 49-14 victory, but this time was different. Austin High emerged victorious in a thrilling, close game, winning 35-34.
Early in the game, Dunaven Kurak made an incredible catch, giving the Maroons a strong lead and momentum. Bryson Batts followed with a 45-yard run, resulting in a touchdown for Austin High. On defense, Will Peeler was dominant, delivering an electrifying sack that helped stop Westwood’s drive. Batts continued his outstanding performance with a 70-yard run, breaking multiple tackles for another Maroons touchdown. According to LT, Preston Perkins, “We moved the ball on the ground well and we were able to give our Quarterback time to throw.”
Overall, it was Austin High’s best game of the season, narrowly winning by just one point. The team fought hard, and starting the season 2-0 is a promising sign for the Maroons. I’m excited to see what this team can achieve and hopeful for a playoff run.
