The new year sets in motion the anticipated baseball season at Austin High School. Directed by dedicated teachers and coaches from different sporting backgrounds, Coach  Arellanes aka Coach A, currently shoulders the responsibilities of Varsity coaching  after the old head coach left last year and Coach Collins  . Under his guidance, a specialized Baseball class has been instituted, aimed at honing the skills of athletes and preparing them for the impending season. “There’s a lot of optimism because this is the first year after we lost the old head coach. It is the first year we have time to work up until the session and work into the session.” said Coach Collins, the Junior varsity one coach. This hard work for baseball is aimed at bringing a successful season, full of wins in games.

Within the class, rigorous training routines and workouts are the norm. The team focuses on vital skills like fielding and hitting From intense conditioning to long weight room sessions, the athletes work hard in preparation for the season. A typical day begins with stretching and ball exercises, followed by field runs or track sessions. The initial semester lays the groundwork with conditioning for running and building endurance. As the semester concludes, the focus shifts to honing specific skills like catching and batting in anticipation of the imminent season. 

The new season leads to hundreds of kids attending tryouts for the team. While lengthy, these evaluations prepare the best team for Austin High, filled with kids who demonstrate great teamwork and skills in baseball. As the players share their expectations for the season, confidence and ambition is shown. Charlie Cook, a Pitcher commented, ”I think we will do great! We got a solid team, solid pitchers, solid catchers, good coaching, we should do good.”  Ames Alejandro, a 3rd Basemen shares that his “expectations for the session is just to ball out, do the best I can, and play the hardest I can.”

The Maroons appear ready for a stellar season, fueled by dedicated training and team cohesion. Anticipation runs high for a promising start to the upcoming games, urging enthusiasts to attend the 2024 Austin High baseball matches and witness the unfolding triumphs on the field. “If we do things right we’ll always have a good game and a good competition,” said Coach Collins .
