Located between the Lake Austin JuiceLand and the iconic Deep Eddy pool is the restaurant establishment “Pool Burger,” serving casual food and continuing to be an avid supporter of Austin High School.
Pool Burger was founded and opened in October 2017in Austin by the McGuire Moorman Hospitality restaurant group. The restaurant’s proximity to Austin High, the Lake Austin Trail, and other Austin hotspots helps attract regular customers from the local community. Pool Burger is a tropical, tiki-themed burger joint built from the remains of a 1968 land yacht. A reason why this restaurant is so highly regarded is their house-made buns, creative burger toppings, and homemade soft-serve, with an overall tropical vibe.
The restaurant menu is a reflection of some of the culture behind “Old Austin,” incorporating references to the pools and trails that Austin is known for. The menu includes a variety of vegetarian options, making it inclusive for all types of eaters. Additionally, the sides and topping options that appear on the Pool Burger menu are not typical of a classic fast-food burger. Apart from the typical bacon and grilled onion, customers also have the option to add avocado, pimento spread, or guacamole to their burgers. Aside from fries as a side, there are options for colorful beets and avocado or fresh orange slices to cool down in the summer heat. Pool burger accompanies the joy and satisfaction of a quality burger with healthier, fresh, and fun options.
In an Austin Monthly review, writer Darcie Duttweiler said, “With its outdoor tables and photogenic decor, Pool Burger is a bustling hot spot by night.” DJs spin tunes Fridays and Saturdays from 10 p.m. to midnight, prompting dancing with a side of burgers. The atmosphere of the restaurant is inclusive to all types of personalities, ensuring happiness and good food.
Pool Burger continues to show support for its community through various menu options that reference Austin culture. This includes the “Loyal Forever” burger, in reference to the motto of Austin High, as well as the “Dazed and Confused” burger. Burgers on the menu range from $10 to $19, ensuring something for everyone. A select few restaurants and businesses around Austin also have named seasonal items after the original Austin High School, including JuiceLand. However, the “Loyal Forever” burger reserves a permanent spot on the Pool Burger menu, demonstrating community pride.
If you ever find yourself taking a walk by the lake or swimming in Deep Eddy, show support for local businesses such as Pool Burger and, especially, avid supporters of Austin High.
