Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is supposedly the last Star Wars film to come out in the “skywalker” saga. However, there could still be Star Wars films set in the movie universe and even tv shows like the live-action Mandalorian series. As always, It was directed by J.J. Abrams and the story is by George Lucas.
The movie is about Rey, Finn, and Poe gearing up with the remaining resistance to fight Kylo Ren and the First Order for the last time. All of the characters that fans have come to know and love throughout the saga will be returning to the screen, however, one character stands out. Palpatine will be returning to the series after it was thought he died in the Return of the Jedi. At the end of the trailer, you can hear Palpatine’s distinct laugh and in the cast list, fans can see that Palpatine is being played by Ian McDiarmid, who was the second actor to portray him.
In the movie poster, there is an unknown character. The character is dual-wielding pistols and has a helmet on, so it could potentially be a new character or an old one in disguise. Another new addition is a character named Jannah who has a bow and arrow style weapon and rides a horse-like creature called an “orbak.”
In a different trailer, we see Rey wearing a hooded black cloak while wielding a red double-bladed lightsaber, which heavily implies the possibility of her joining the dark side in the new movie. She looks almost evil and shows no emotion in her face. Perhaps Palpatine turned her to the dark side, or maybe it is a force vision, but who’s to say until the movie comes out. The Rise of Skywalker comes out Dec. 20 and I, along with many other fans, can’t wait!
