Hall Offers Something Different to Curl Up With

In the book A Little Something Different by Sandy Hall, Gabe and Lea are meant to be together, and everyone knows it except for them. They meet in creative writing class and continue to have things in common like the same favorite TV show, or ordering the same Chinese food. The author, Sandy Hall, tells this story in a very cute and refreshing way.

The book is written in fourteen different viewpoints. While some of them are a bit obscure and add fun, interesting perspectives like the park bench, or the squirrel. At first, I was a bit hesitant about having so many viewpoints, but it worked seamlessly.

To hear this love story told by everyone but the main characters were compelling. I also love how this book deals with things like being shy and social awkwardness because it makes the characters feel human; it adds something that people can relate to.

It is lighthearted and keeps you rooting for their seemingly ill-fated relationship. I think the unconventional writing style, with all of the viewpoints, is really what makes this book so special. All of the characters feel real; this is a book that really sucks you into the story.

I also find it interesting that not all of the characters have close relationships with Gabe and Lea, yet they are still able to tell their story. Each character has their own goals and personalities which can affect the way the readers see the story when they are telling it.

This book was basically the equivalent of shipping two characters from your favorite TV show. The whole time you’re practically screaming in your head, “Just be together already!”

If you are someone who doesn’t like cutesy romantic comedies, I wouldn’t recommend this book for you. But, if you are one of those people, you have to read this book. This innocent, sweet, romance is perfect if you are looking for a lighthearted book to curl up with.
