Senior midfielder Reed Sallans runs the ball and avoids checks from an Anderson defender.

Though the lacrosse team has had consistent games against challenging teams since early February, the team began district play on March 25th with a game against Round Rock which ended in a loss by one in double overtime.

“We may have lost but it was a battle all game, and when a game goes to double overtime, it becomes a bit of a coin flip,” senior Reed Sallans said.

On March 28th the team played Alamo Heights, winning 12-8 at home.

The team has come a long way since they last played Round Rock in their first fall scrimmage, in which Round Rock took the win with a score of 11-8. However, with a significantly more developed defense and productive offense, the team has improved tremendously.

“Early in the season, our team was pretty fragmented and unorganized,” junior Carter Northington said. “After weeks of practice and a trip to Florida where we saw some really good lacrosse, we are much more formidable to the Round Rock team. I don’t think there is any way we can lose.”

There will be five district games for the team this season that will decide whether the team makes the playoffs.

“So here’s the story. Varsity will have to win a total of three of the five district games to advance to the city playoffs,” head coach John Trevey said.

The team will be practicing hard in order to take on the challenges ahead; with Westlake coming up and Bowie a challenge as well.

“The Maroons will have to continue climbing the mountain we’ve been climbing all year,” Trevey said.
