As of 2025, there are 10 teams in Formula One. All of them have one goal: to win the championship. But which teams have a chance to win? This year each team’s strengths and weaknesses will define their seasons. The 10 teams are Alpine, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Haas, Kick Sauber, McLaren, Mercedes, Racing Bulls, Red Bull Racing, and Williams.
After a mediocre season last year, Alpine hopes to prepare for the regulation changes in 2026 by securing a capable driver in its second seat. Pierre Gastly and Jack Doohan are Alpine’s two drivers this season. Gastly has been an asset of Alpine since 2023 securing his spot as the team leader this year. Jack Doohan was a late switch last season. Doohan needs to show his abilities this season to secure the second seat for 2026.
2024 was a rough season for Aston Martin. They finished far below what they could have for the last few years. Adrian Newey Red Bull’s technical director has signed with Aston Martin for 2025 and was a large factor in Red Bull’s recent championships. He is working to help the struggling team to grow this year. Aston Martin has an experienced driver lineup consisting of Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso. Stroll has been struggling to perform the last few years but still seems to have a solid seat at Aston Martin. Alonso is a multiple championship-winning driver, now entering the end of his career being 43.
Coming second in the constructor’s championship last year, Ferrari aims to improve further and win it all. With the team’s new lineup of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, they have more than enough talent to leave 2025 on the top step of the podium. Leclerc is the “project child” of Ferrari having come through their junior driver program and being an important part of the team since 2019. Hamilton replaced the former driver Sainz for the 2025 season. Hamilton, a 7 seven-time world champion, left Mercedes for a new opportunity at Ferrari. Whether it will be a good fit and lead Ferrari to victory is still unknown.
Haas is a smaller American team that has struggled to cement itself in F1. This year Haas aims to score more points with their all-new driver lineup. Estaban Ocon and Oliver Bearman fill the two driver seats.
In 2024 Kick Sauber came last in the constructors championship. In 2026 The team will be taken over by Audi, hoping to increase their chance of winning. This leaves Kick Sauber in a hard spot currently, and in 2025 the team will aim to score a few points. The team’s driver lineup for 2025 is Nico Hulkenberg and Gabrial Bortoleto.
In 2024 Mclaren won their first constructors championship since 1998. This year the team aims to win the drivers championship as well. One factor for Mclearn’s recent success is their drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. Both drivers are young prospects who are yet to show all their potential.
Mercedes is taking a different approach, and they aim to start new. After losing their long-term team lead Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes has brought on a young star Kimi Antonelli. Alongside Antonelli, Gorge Russell, a veteran member of the team, will be filling the priority spot. Mercedes aims to win a few races this year before the regulation changes catch up with them in 2026.
Racing Bulls is the new and improved name for the Red Bull junior team. In 2024 the team was called Visa Cash App RB. The name change will help give the team a solid identity, and minimize confusion. The team has signed a new driver Isack Hadjar. Yuki Tsunoda is still driving for Racing Bull after his teammate was promoted to Red Bull.
With Red Bull Racing, Max Verstappen won his fourth consecutive drivers championship last year. The biggest question this year is if he can keep his streak up. Last year Red Bull lost their main engineer Adrian Newey, slowing Red Bull’s car upgrades. On top of this Red Bull has had many internal fights causing turmoil in the team. This year the team aims to stay on the top step of the podium and resolve any issues. The two drivers on the team this year are Max Verstappen, a long-time member of the team, and Liam Lawson, an inexperienced driver who is in one of the most competitive and challenging seats in the sport.
Finally, after a season full of crashes and missed opportunities, Williams is working towards building a better driver lineup. This year Williams acquired Carlos Sainz to go alongside Alexander Albon. Last season Albon had two teammates Logan Sargent and Franco Colapinto, neither of whom stayed in the sport. This year Sainz hopes to work with the team to get more points and work toward dominating the midfield.
Overall, the Formula 1 2025 Preseason displays excitement and competition. These 10 teams will continue to battle it out for the top spot.
