As the lights dim, the only light shines on junior Clint Laroux. Laroux has proven from his audition that he is meant for Pre Area Choir. Not only is Laroux third chair alto, but also is the choir historian, allowing him to put extra amounts of time into choir.

“Pre Area takes the top five people from the initial audition. The requirement states that you were to place above the nineteenth chair and you also had to have all real copies of the music,” Laroux said.

Laroux had to sing three different pieces, one being the La Danza, an Italian piece that requires holding an impressively long note, which requires that Laroux  not breathe for multiple seconds, while still having to project the note to the judge. Laroux was cutting it close to the requirement of the Pre Area audition, but moved up quickly and nailed his audition.

“The lower number your chair gives you a greater opportunity to move up. I started in the eighteenth chair and moved my way up,” Laroux said.

Laroux was able to place the requirement, making him eligible to continue to his next audition for Pre Area Choir. He had limited time to practice for his audition however. Laroux has been singing throughout his entire life and now it has paid off, although other students made Pre Area Choir it is a great accomplishment for Laroux because he is a junior.

“I practiced every day for a month with my other choir members. Although it was time-consuming the result was something I could always be proud of,” Laroux said.
