This year, the tutoring center is open for a much shorter period; 45 minutes before and after school, Monday through Friday. Math teacher Mr. Reyes will be the only tutor that still remains from previous years.

“I’m in there as a math tutor, but there are UT students there covering when I’m not there, and they cover the science and math as well. For budget reasons, we’re down to just one [teacher], me, for 45 minutes a day.” Reyes said.

The tutoring center is a resource for students to get help on their homework and to study. It is located in room 264, directly beside the library and across from the bathroom. In previous years, anywhere from two to five teachers were in this room from 7:45 to 9:00 AM, and from 4:30 to 6:00 PM. This year, there are some major changes to this system.

Mrs. Marovich and Dr. Dent both retired last year, and their roles in the center have been replaced.

“Mrs. Baylor, the science tutor, does her own tutoring times now, outside of the tutoring center,” Reyes said.

Like Mrs. Baylor, any teacher that previously had their tutoring times in the tutoring center will now have their own classes (times depending on the teacher) with the exception of Mr. Reyes.

“I am in there after school for 45 minutes on Thursday, and then mornings on Friday.” Reyes said.

While the tutoring center did slim down considerably, it should be noted that it is still an option for those struggling in certain subjects, and everyone in the center is there to help students who need it. Come by and visit if you need help on an assignment.
