As the volleyball season kicks into gear, the varsity girls are hoping their second season playing 5A will bring tough competition and a competitive run in district play.

With the departure of multiple star players the end of last year, varsity coach Ally McCalister looks forward to her new seniors to step up and lead the team.

“They’re working hard, and the senior leadership right now is really strong,” McCalister said. “I’m so excited to have those seniors as part of the team.”

The first week of school varsity swept Del Valle in their first game of the season. McCalister hopes that the confidence the team gained moving down from 6A last year, will make a positive impact on the team this season going into District play.

“Now that [we’re] in 5A, [we’re] playing different teams that they haven’t seen before,” McAlister said. “So now that they’re seen those opponents last year, they’re going to have so much more confidence and speed to be able to stay within that first round of playoffs.”
