After months of back and forth, the district has approved a new release time of 4:20 p.m., which will go into effect at the end of February to help relieve traffic after school.

“The decision to ask for a 4:20 release time was to help our students and staff navigate difficult and congested traffic conditions after school hours,” principal Amy Taylor said.

However, Taylor says that without the community’s support and cooperation the new release time will not work.

“Parents can help by waiting in the WAYA parking lot in lieu of parking in striped locations under the bridge. Please help us by cooperating with our new rules and policies so that the buses can get in and out of the Austin High circle drive,” Taylor said. “Parents are welcome to drive into the circle drive after the buses have left the campus.”

The new bell schedule has not been released yet. More information to come as this story unfolds.
