The Deer in the Spotlight

As musicians continue to sprout all across Austin, local bands are scrambling to rise above the rest with back to back shows and touring. One local band, The Deer, have set themselves up in a good position for the spotlight, recently releasing their second album, On the Essence of the Indomitable Spirit.
Avant-folk inspired, carried by upbeat and harmonious howl and growl songcraft, The Deer raises the bar in their latest album to a new level of more than people nodding their heads in a standing crowd. The four piece group recorded their debut album, An Argument For Observation in 2011 under the name Grace Park & the Deer, but changed their name in 2013 to The Deer after losing a friend in an accident. Their new album reveals their heartache and ambition for the future through the dreamy and soft tone that tells their story. The much anticipated release of their latest album brought much attention to the group with radio time and new fans.
“2015 is off to an amazing start for us, beginning with great gigs and a Free Week show that was beyond our expectations. It’s always heartening to see the familiar faces of our friends and family, but beyond that it’s really exciting to see so many new faces in the crowd each time we play live,” Alan Eckert.
Although they just completed their 13 song set, The Deer is working on new tracks and just recorded a new song this week. There are currently plans for two short tours in April and July. In between, they’ll be working on new material and promoting the current album.
You can catch The Deer on Friday, February 27, at The Historic Scoot Inn and End of an Ear Records.
