Battlefield 1 Poses Problems for New Players

Battlefield 1 is one of the newest game by DICE and EA, and just as they promised, they created a realistic experience of the first World War. Battlefield 1 came out late last year and has been all the rave since.

The game starts out strong with a grim war zone and enemies that seem endless and get stronger each wave. The artificial intelligence developed for sequences like this and others are fantastic and extremely enjoyable. The graphics are stunning and couldn’t be compared to many games released last year. Even on the Xbox one, the graphics are stupendous, and the sound design is extremely well done and really brings you into the game.

The online play, the main game mode, is what ruins the game for many people. The game modes are known as Conquest, Operations, Domination, Team Deathmatch, War Pigeons, and Rush. The mode considered the main way the game is supposed to be played is Conquest, but it has many flaws and kinks that are unfamiliar to most.

Conquest is set on large maps that favor one class and one class only. Snipers in Battlefield 1 are impossible to kill without being a sniper, while snipers are free to kill everyone else. Since the guns in the game are realistic for World War 1, long-range is almost an impossibility, leaving every class but sniper with a short stick.

Sadly, because of the maps in the Arabian desert (which happen to be the main maps of the game), snipers can shoot anyone who dares the sand dunes to capture an objective. While on other maps, mainly the ones not set in the desert, are impossible to play on as well because of the tanks that are nearly unkillable. If you’re on foot, or even in another tank, if an enemy tank spots you first, you might as well kill yourself then. Hiding in houses isn’t an option either; because of the destructible environment, tanks can easily shoot the buildings and the rubble falls on top of you and kills you. However, the game gives you two anti-tank weapons that are supposed to kill tanks. Sadly, the weapons are just a little dink in their health and barely work at all.

The other game modes do have their flaws as well. The game modes of Operations, Domination, and Rush all are close-quarters and create a fair playing field for all of the classes. It isn’t hard to have fun in this mode and win. The only problem is the inclusion of tanks at certain points in the game. Tanks work well with the environment and there are few places to hide, and with the thick armor the tanks have, it could take most of your team to destroy it.

The game is extremely realistic because of the multitude of deaths one player can experience. The game is impossible to play now because it’s one of those games that you have to pick up at launch or never play at all. At launch, everyone was new to the game so it was easy to pick up and have fun, but once everyone got the hang of it, it’s impossible to play as a new player.

The game has major flaws that people online exploit. It’s hard to pick up because of the professional players who can be found trolling through the online modes. However, it is an extremely beautiful game and the graphics couldn’t be trumped by anything released this year or in 2016.
