Of all the things that have changed over the past four years, Newspaper has always been my constant. No matter what, I could always rely on Room 335 to be a source of comfort for me. I’m not afraid of change, I welcome it, but when everything in your life feels like it’s changing all at once, it’s nice to have a place to come to every day where you know exactly what’s going on. That’s what newspaper was for me, and that’s how I’ll always remember it.

The best thing about Room 335 is the people. I’ve seen four different staffs over four years and each one has been completely original and unique. Every person I’ve met has been great (and occasionally, not so great) in so many different ways that make me thankful to be able to work alongside them. Anna and Sadira, in particular, have been such amazing influences on my life that I can’t imagine the past year without them. Salazar has been a fantastic guide along the way, I don’t know if I would have made it this far with anyone else at the helm.

The Maroon looks much different than it did four years ago. We’ve grown. We’ve made mistakes and learned what works best for our organization and our school. The whole #BeSomebody thing happened and we laughed our way through it. We made the leap to 40 page super-issues that are equally terrifying and absolutely exciting.

I know I’m going to be leaving the paper in good hands. I have the utmost trust in all of our editors and staffers, and I know they’re all going to do great things. This isn’t the end, it’s just the beginning of a new era, and that’s nothing to be sad about. In a few months, I’ll be on a plane headed for New York and I’ll be sending all my love and positivity back home to Room 335.
